Be the Home of Love

Beverly Lanzetta Meditations, Study

LOVE OF TRUTH IS AT THE CENTER OF MONASTIC LIFE. The monk’s heart loves in this way, not because we know what we are going to find or have proof of God, but because love creates us. Love sustains us. Love is the beginning. We do not love the Divine because we want something. We love because love is the first prayer, the first passion; love poetry gave birth to us.

When we love purely, without motive, with our whole being, and without desire for love in return, we co-create and participate in the flowing out of love. We don’t ask for a demonstration, we don’t demand to be healed of errors or wounds. We can make a commitment now, we can vow to love and learn to love the way Divine Mystery loves us.

The miracle of love is that even if we have never received unconditional love from another person, we have the capacity to be the home of love. We have within ourselves the ability to be the source of love. Love can be our daily practice.
